Default gas pump/ fuel meter

Is there any need for a dampener before the fuel meter or a special fuel meter ?
I hooked up a fuel presure meter to the T on the fuel line after the pump.

The needle fluctuates all over at idle and from 0 to 15 in a very fast motion (almost cant see the needle cos it goes too fast) at higher rpms.

bad pump ?

Thanks !

15psi is a lot for a Holley. What kind of pump do you have? Do you have a regulator?

Default Fuel pressure

Agreed, 15psi might be blowing the needle out of the seat on the carb, but since the fuel pump is a 'surge' type lever pump, you will see pressure going from 0 to max on each cycle. Since the fuel bowl acts like a reservoir, it makes sure the circuits of the carb only see a steady flow of fuel. If you are used to looking at an electric pump, you won't see this fluctuation.

Hope this makes sense.

Makes sence, i was expecing constant presure or some residual pressure... but not a surge from 0 to 15

Is your gauge liquid filled? If not you will see the needle flucuations, a liquid filled (glycerine) gauge dampens the needle movement.

Is not, so i should get a liqued filled one or a regulator before the gauge?

Default Issue?

You might need a regulator, to get the pressure down to under say 10 psi. But are you having issues with how the car is running?

I think i m having a lot of different issues going on and i `m trying to cover the basics.
-mech advance all in at 1700 rpm. probably worn springs.this thing looks like it came with the car.
-vibration after 3k rpm, like a bad balanced tire but in any gear at any speed.
-rough idling till 1200 rpms...

BTW i bought a glycerin filled pressure meter, i hope it helps with my insane fluctuation of the current one.
