So i know there has been a lot of discussion on these already, but i haven't been able to make up my mind. My car now has just chambered mufflers on it, and its LOUD, too loud. (but sounds awesome) I'm getting sidepipes for it, but i don't want the car to be as loud as it was before, and over the computer i can't really tell how loud the max flo, and sts baffles really are. I don't want it to be quiet by any means, i just want it quieter than it is right now. Opinions would be great. Thanks

I have new max-flows and they are a bit loud for me. But I do like them at WOT, for a short time. Very loud when cruising

That's why I liked the STS baffles . . . you can adjust sound level to some extent. I started with mine capped, but recently drilled the center cap with 1/2" hole and really like the sound. I can drill it out more if I want more sound or I can recap to return to their original level. Here is a video I did, you can't really how loud they are, but it does give you an idea of the sound they make. Sorry, I have not updated the video since I drilled the center cap. Hope this helps:

STS baffles are great. Sound good at idle, roar at WOT. I can cruise at 70 mph with top down at 2200 rpm and listen to the radio. Perfect balance.

big question though is what about performance. sidepipes are my next mod so i have been looking into this quite a bit lately.
i dont give a crap about sound. i want performance. i keep reading about how baffles kill hp. which baffle causes the least amount of hp loss. it doesnt matter if it sounds like a gay gorilla yelling whoooooooo as long as it performs.

I went thru the same debate, I decided on Max flows because of the cheaper price tag. I ordered them from a company on ebay and then received an email saying the max flows are backordered until end of august. I was refunded my money and checked with summitracing and jegs and they also were backordered. I didn't have any luck finding them anywhere on the net so I'm still driving around with open 4" pipes.

All baffles/inserts rob you of power. The STS are the least restrictive IMO. There have been several CF members who have looked at the flow of the different baffles, so I would recommend doing an advanced search and decide for yourself. I like the auger design myself. Give Jim a call at STS, he is the guy who designed them and I'm sure he can answer your questions . . . real nice guy!!!

If power is your number 1 consideration and you are going to run a muffler than I wouldn't get sidepipes. The sidemount style header is much more restrictive than undercar and the primaries are way longer than ideal, unless you go with Stahl's. Do a nice mandrel bend undercar with Ultraflow or similar mufflers and a poperly sized set of headers.

Now as for sidepipe mufflers, the baffles are the way to go. Tuneable sound and maximum hp. Search, as I have poted my dyno results here many times. In short, an uncapped baffle only lost 12 horsepower on my 614 horse 502.

Tough to beat that. Give Jim at STS a call. He is a straight shooter and a good guy.
