I have an issue. MY vette has what my grandfather (who recently gave me the car) a "slipped ring". Is it worth it to fix it at this point? or get a new transmission? He insists that i need to rebuild it so that it remains numbers matching. Opinions? Whats the cost difference? The replacement would be a 700R4.

it depends on what kind of vette it is.
if it is a rare type and you plan on ever reselling it then keeping it numbers matching might be worth it.

look at it this way though, put the stock tranny in storage and do the swap.

Rebuild what you have, if it will allow it. Sometimes if you let things go long enough, cases and housings will be damaged beyond repair. Also, the internals of the trans are made for that type of car. Valve body and other thinigs. It can be improved on with better stronger parts and have some properties deleted out. Hopefully you have a good transmission repair shop that can advise you in the issues.
