Default engine update

went to the shop today and got an update on the engine swap.
new engine will be here tomorrow.

old engine is out. i looked at the piston on the dropped valve and although there isnt a hole there is some mushrooming on the edge of the valve relief.

while it is out i am having the radiator cleaned out and the front and back of the transmission resealed.

we noticed that the upper and lower control arms were shot so they are replacing those as well.

they are estimating another week before it is finished.

here is some pics of the damage.
nothing was moved, cleaned, etc
notice the #5 piston is clean while every other one is carbon covered.
also notice how the #5 spark plug is angled. it is not cross threaded either.
its just wierd that the spark plug goes in at an angle on the same cylinder that dropped a valve.
wierd. notice the top of the of edge of the valve relief is mushroomed out

intake valve, stuck and wont move

angled plug, it threads in and out easily so its not cross threaded wierd

Who made those heads? Their quality department needs an adjustment. That valve is stuck in the giude (probably bent), and they drilled and tapped the spark plug at an odd angle. I'd almost bet the guide is too small, the valve seized in the giude, kissed the piston, and then bent. Be interesting to get that valve out and try a new valve in there.
Too little clearance on a valve guide and there's no oil to lube/cool the stem. It gets hot, expands and sticks.

All heads need to be thoroughly checked out of the box. They use guides from one supplier and valves from another. If the guide is on the tight side of tolerance and the valve is on the big side of tolerance this can happen. My AFR heads valves were too tight. Had to hone the guides right from AFR. Glad they were checked out before install. If I remember your other post the rockers were cranked all the way down to the bottom of the threads causing the valve to hit the piston.

yeah, the day after i got it from the shop it went bang. the edge on the keepers was sheared smooth where the valve was ripped loose.
