iv got a 92 lt1 vette engine im installing in my c3....first it is on a enging stand.....i have the older 501 painless harness....i "rough" wired/plumbed it with power switches, inline fuel pump return lines test tank and a starter button.etc...i started it up for the first time and it died,,,start die,,start die, etc...... i called painless and the said i needed a vats module #64024..i kinda knew i would need it...but!!!!!...i got one and same thing start die.and....it came in friday afternoon and of crs they are closed till monday....so any help i will be very thankfull....

If you know what vats code you have it is easy to bypass the vats system. First find out the code and then look up the resistance for that chip (can be found on the web). Wire in a resistor with the same resistance and it will never trigger the vats.
A lot of the VATS bypass modules have 2 outputs - one for 50 Hz and one for 30 Hz (I think). The 50 Hz is used for LS engines and the 30 Hz is intended for the LT engines. if you have 4 wires on your bypass module make sure you are using the right output. The other 2 connections are for ground and switched power (hot in start and run - normally a pink wire). There should be a wiring diagram or instructions with your bypass module that will tell you how to hook things up.
Edit: since the engine is on a stand just wire the VATS bypass power to the 12V source for testing.

I haven't studied the 92LT system much, but wouldn't the vats not even let it start at all if it doesn't see the correct resistance? I know the 89 system wouldn't. It wouldn't crank or start. It sounds like the fuel pump is not running to me. The pump might be initially powering on prime and then not continuing on run. Just something to check. Would be the same symptom.
painless said that on my 92 lt1 that this is the semtom of the vats problem --start die/start die...and yes the fuel pump is running and sustaining a proper pressure...after talking to them this am they said try another prom/chip...but i thought the module was to take care of this....otherwise i would have orderd a chip....but ...thank you for the reply
