Default Dual Electric Fan help.

Hey everyone. I am trying to set up my dual electric fan kit from Dewitt's. I understand how things need to work, but I do not know what wires to splice the kits wires into. On the diagram, it says to hook the orange wire into the ignition. I have no idea what wire to splice this into. Then it says to hook the positive fane wires into the fuse which i know how to do, but I do not know where to hook the fuses wires into. It just has it going to the battery. I have no idea how to do that either. If anyone can help by telling me where to wire this kit into the ignition at, and to the battery at. I would appreciate it greatly. One more question, it says to hook another wire to the sending unit, that is on the radiator right?

the owner of Dewitts posts here allot, and reads the board, so just post a Q's with the name "Dewitts" in it and he'll get back to you. I can answer 2 of your questions though. for the ingnition, get a good 16 gauge wire and snake in into the passenger compartment through one of the available holes in the fire wall, run it over to your fuse block, and crimp a female red lug to it, and plug it into the IGN tab. For the power to run your fans, hook this to the large red insulated power stud on your alternator.

IF you bought the rad/fan combo, then YES the temp switch is installed into the left side end tank, just below the hose inlet. If you just bought the fans only, then you'll have to create a location for the switch. Some people have trouble with this one because GM didn't provide extra cooling ports for aftermarket items. It's really not that hard to get a 3/8 npt port into the cooling system. I suggest putting a tee into the heater hose, using a late C3 thermostat housing, soldering (copper) or welding (aluminum) a coupling onto the radiator, or an adapter under the stat housing. There are many ways to do it and all of them will work.

As far as the wiring goes, you can also pick up an IGNITION source at the wiper motor. You'll need a volt meter to check the wiring, but any wire that goes hot when you turn the key on will work. All this does is make sure the fans only run when you have the ignition on. Some people connect this wire into a constant hot so the fans will run even after the car is shut off. That might drain the battery a bit and it also might be a little dangerous when working on it.

In the end, there is no "correct" way to wire fans because there are so many different ways to cycle the fans and personal preferences. Many use the automatic method but some prefer the manual. Some have it both ways and some use two switches.
