Forgive me guys cause I am at work today and didn't have my Black Book to look up the correct info.
I saw an ad in the paper today of a 69 Corvette for sale about 40 miles from me. Called and the owner said it was in pretty good shape, was the second owner for the past 13 years, and that it was Gold in color. Didn't know if it was original paint or not.
Thought that I recalled something about Riverside Gold being a color for 69, but not many of them painted that color. Anybody tell me how many if that is correct color for that year?
Riverside Gold:
- Paint code #980 for 1969
- Available with black or saddle interior (as suggested by Chevy)
- Black Book unfortunately provides no production figures on this color
1971 is the first year they began breaking colors by build quantity.
There were quite a few Riverside Gold vettes produced, but not enough for Chevy to keep the color in the vette line. Although I think, Warbonnet Yellow is similar. Unfortunately many of the RG vettes were painted after RG faded from public favor. My car was one of those that was painted, I wish it was RG again.
Here's a nice picture of a RG 69 roadster from last years vette show in Houston.
Thanks guys,
I may have to call him back and go look at it tomorrow. Asking $16,000 or best offer. Sounds very drivable with 58,000 miles. 350 V8 four speed with Saddle interior.
Sound a bit high on price, but maybe he will budge a few thousand.
Mine was originally Riverside. The second owner, (I'm the fourth) said he was going to do it the same, but the painter talked him into the Imron Arctic White.
I would like to have it that color, but after 12 years this paint job still looks beautiful, so it may never happen. Pictures don't do it justice.
My '69 BB ragtop was and still is Riverside Gold. It was a one year color offering. The three astronauts that went to the moon all got one done in Riverside Gold. It's unique and many like it, while some think a 'Vette should be either: red, black or white. Go look at that car!
Regards,Mark :chevy

Mine was a one time Riverside Gold car. Now it's white with black interior. I'm not so sure about RG with Saddle interior though  If I repaint it will probably return to RG.
My 1969 convertible was originally painted Riverside Gold with a Black top and black interior.
The previous owner re-painted silver.
I have the car stripped from the front clip to the start of the rear quarters.
I still have plenty of time to decide what color to re-paint it but I have yet to decide if I will re-paint it the original color or not.
Some days I like the Riverside Gold color and then others I don't know for sure.
Lots of Vettes were repainted white or red. My Cortez Silver car was painted white when I bought it in 1998. The original laquer paint metallic colors on these cars didn't last more than a few years if left out in the elements. The logical thing to do was repaint in a non-metallic enamel color. Plus, white is very forgiving of minor ripples and waves in the body.
I'm 100% in favor of returning these cars to their original color. In the 3 years since I painted my '69, I haven't seen another light silver chrome bumpered Shark at any of the cruise-ins or shows I have attended. Lets put those silver and gold cars back out there!
Rich - Is the car you're looking at a coupe or a vert? I've always liked the riverside gold and warbonnet yellow cars but, along with the orange ones , you rarely see them anymore at shows or otherwise. Let us know how the car turns out and post pics if you can.
I feel so stupid. To tell you the truth, I forgot to ask (vert or coupe). Now if it's a vert, 16,000 might not be bad.
Now for the bad news. I have tried to get a hold of the owner all day and tonight. I'm afraid that it is sold and he's unpluged his phone, or he's just out of town and i will not get a hold of him in time to look at it.
I really don't have that much money right now to buy another Vette, but it sure sounds like it a car that has good possibilities.
Will try again tomorrow.
Keith, I have pix but no scanner or digital camera so don't think I can post them here. However, the color is whats represented in the pix that Smokehouse posted in this thread.
I agree with the hesitation about picking it as a repaint choice. Some days I like it a lot as it's unique and the gold accentuates the chrome. Other days I wonder what other color might be better. I like black and red of course, but I just saw a new T-Bird in a beautiful glossy pale yellow that is quite striking. It reminded me of the '69 GTO I owned many years ago that was pale yellow with a black ragtop and black interior. If I do re-paint it that might be the color for me!
I have just found a 69 that has been in a garage for 20 years. Is a BB 390 ,very good black interior, engine is a 402,painted black over orange over Riverside Gold. Never seen a gold 69 in England. Just enough of the tank sticker to confirm my first thoughts that it was a 390 hp and R G .

My '69 was repainted black 30+ years ago,now stripped almost ready for repaint.Been trying to decide between the RG or black for 6 months
