Just had my TH400 overhauled, new shift kit, seals, etc. Sprung for a Huges Performance GM25 to match the requirements of my ZZ383. The tech I talked to at Huges told me to use Ford type F fluid in my new transmission/converter. Any thoughts or info on this before I pour it in!
Type F has more friction additives than Dextron. I've used F in the past. The up side is more clutch holding power. The down side is more ware on all the parts.
I would use the recommended. If the shifts are to hard then change over to dextron. What ultimately determines the life of the auto tranny is it's operating temp. Always use the biggest cooler possible.

I just went throught he same but with Hughes GM20. Same recommendation from Hughes but the tranny guy who did the rebuild told me to stick with Dexron III..that the pure type F would wear out the clutches so thats what I did...tranny works great.
Type F [Ford} is the same product as B&M`s Trick Shift that they recommend in their transmissions. Shifts hard, and will rip tires. I have never had a problem using it at 7K shifts.
