I have a 73 vert with T&T, The steering has momentarilly locked on me when taking a sharp turn. It did it last summer a few times and then seemed to work itself out, then recently I had it happen again. At first I thought it might have something to do with the power steering control valve, however, this last time it felt like the steering wheel lock (when you shut the key off) was catching a little. Has anybody had experience with this??
You need to figure this out pronto. If it's feeling like it's locking at the top, it's possible that the spring for the lock pin is broken and not retracting the pin. If it locks up going down the highway- bad news. Get Jim Shea's steerng papers and look them over, Might give you a clue as to what's going on in there.

Mine typically fails to completely lock once in a while, I THINK if that rack is off a tooth it maybe not retract that pin....
be ME, I"d pull that pin outta there, unless you have to pass a annual safety inspection....if they check for that, I dunno.....
When I got my 77 that was one of the first problems I had with it, took a hard U-turn and it locked over, before I got the new valve I made a lane change and almost hit a cop car. Go thru the valve carefully as well as the pin in the steering lock, make sure, it can give you a very bad day.
I don't really need the steering wheel to lock when parked. Is the locking pin accessible without removing the steering column? i will search for Jim Shea's Papers. Thanks for the help.
i think your first impression may be correct. make sure the transmission-steering interlock cable is adjusted properly so that the lever is the full-up position when in forward gears.
