I'm getting my 80 ready to go back on the frame, then body and paint is next. Anybody use Glasurit paint?

First shot at spraying anything, and I pick a 71 Corvette in Brands Hatch Green. Strip to bare glass, then used all PPG from the high build, sealer, paint, and clear. The dealer quoted me the top of the line basecoat, but the Omni line was half the price. Any flaws would be me, not the paint, at this point. No issues, even tone across entire spray, including parts that were done separately. Total in at $1k for PPG materiels.

Top of the line Benjamin Moore Allure house paint is $75 plus tax a gallon for wall paint and for a 2000 sq/ft house you need 10-15 gallons. That's just the walls, not doors, windows trim etc.

Nothings cheap anymore when I got my Vette painted a few years back by Legendary Motor Cars they used Sikkens paint. I was told it was expensive paint but I didn't care because someone backed into me and was footing the bill

DuPont system BC/CC all material stripper, primer, sand paper, tape, etc. was 1000-1100 give or take a little. Work done by me in the basement including paint. No 75K down draft booth. Best advice I think is to not buy cheap stuff--yes some are over priced but check out who you buy from.

As a painter and someone who has been in the body business all my life, you do get what you pay for in this case. When oil went up paint went through the roof. Nason is Duponts cheap line of paint and many people use the clear and steer clear of the base. The base paint doesn't cover well and you will spend just about as much as the Dupont.

Red is the highest and the reason is the pigment comes from Africa.
Simply put if you want the car to look good for a few years or to sell it the cheap is fine. If you want it to still look good 20 years from now buy the good stuff.

Hmm, I went to O'reillies and bought a gallon of PPG Omni paint, in Torch red, Nason Clear, and bought all my supplied online (sandpaper, and tape).

I don't remember what the paint cost me but I know I have less than $500 in my whole paintjob that I did myself

I previously paid some moron $3700 to paint my car and he botched it up so bad I redid it myself.

I'm never going to pay a "professional" again, mine turned out that good. I'm going to paint my Trans Am next spring.

I payed my moron $4300 and I am in the process of redoing it.

Great post and information. I love the pics of cars that people have painted by themselves.

Right now I have a '73 that was painted from the mustard yellow to the "Earl Scheib paint job" red. Terrible job, I must say! Dark Saddle interior. I want it a '73 yellow. Question is, should I have it soda blasted first, redo the gelcoat, then start the primer and paint application? Does Soda Blasting hurt the gelcoat? I know about the neutralizing afterwards. Is yellow as $$$$ as the red? More base needed for coverage? How many coats of clear is min/ but no more than how many? thanks all!
