I have a holley 4175 carb. The throttle lever on the carb hits my original air cleaner on my 74. I want to cut about a 1/2 inch from the top of the lever. I would like to take it off to do a smooth job. It looks like it has a slotted screw that would be taken out that holds the lever secure.
Question is the lever pressed on to the square piece on the carb. Or will it slide off once I take the slotted screw out ?
anything else I need to watch out for on the spring behind the lever.
I am installing a Lokar cable this weekend, so that different issue will be taken care of.
I have a 4175 on my 73 with Stock air cleaner which I believe is identical to 74.. I had no such issue with the throttle lever and was able to use factory cable and carb bracket. The only issue i had with the air cleaner base was that it hit the VacSec module. I resolved this by using a thicker air horn gasket, which raised me up enough to where I had to cut down the hood seal.
I would try the thicker gasket first before cutting anything.
Looking at the Holley web site sheet for that carburetor, it does not show a screw holding on the upper part of the throttle lever. Below is the link to the exploded view http://www.holley.com/data/TechServi...ded%20View.pdf
Yes looking at the drawing that screw I am seeing is only the Pump Cam screw. I may try the thicker gasket to see if that will correct the issue since it seems the lever can not be removed.
