Also note that temp. of air from vents only got down to about 75degrees. Before the compressor went south it would easily cool down to 45.

It sounds like you're putting in too much Freon. with temps in the 95 to 100 range the max on the high pressure side should be no more than 250.

I took my 2004 GMC truck in for service and they said they found a small leak in the ac after I reported a problem of it going full heat sometimes. They added dye and refilled. I noticed on the way home that the ac was not very could. was going to take it back but didn't have the time so I used my gauges and found high pressue to be 350 so I let some out to get down to 250 and now it cools great.

I would start by putting the gauge on the high side and let it go back down until you begin to feel cold air and compare this to the correct pressure for outside temp (it's on the web). Don't forget to put a fan in front of the condensor or your readings can be off.
