Default 71 BB 4spd pulling the motor ?

I will be pulling the motor out of my 71 LS6 4 speed this fall and have some questions. I can pull the trans out in an hour (have done it 5 times now) Can i pull the motor out with the bell housing attached and the radiator and core support still in the engine compartment? I can strip the front of the motor down to taking the water pump off? Can i leave the exhaust manifolds on?

Please give me any hints you may have to speed this process up. I will be using a 2 post lift and an overhead crane with a motor leveler, so i have all of the tools to make it easy and do not want to remove more than i have to. Or is it easier to just pull the entire core support with the radiator attached and leave some of the front engine assembly on.

what about pulling the motor and trans as one unit??

pulling out the radiator and support is very easy will take maximum 20 min. or so, and will give you miles of clearance, I'd do it and save a lot of time and labor down the road.

If you have both radiator and support out and the car is sitting on a lift, then you can remove both engine and tranny as one unit.

For myself, when it comes to dealing with a massive parts like engines and transmissions, I'd get myself as much space and clearance as I could.

Once you have the trans out pull the bellhousing, clutch ,flywheel,ex manifolds, water pump and other items on the front and lower pulley. That should give you enough room.

I don't know about a BB but I have pulled my SB with the bellhousing still on and the water pump still on without removing the radiator and core support. It is a tight fit but it all came out. I would think a BB with all you say stripped off it can be done.

You'll probably need to pull the rad. You can get away w/o pulling the core support- But like a previous poster said the core support is not that tough.

AND I can almost guarantee you will get the "might as well as I am at its" and be pulling everything that IS bolted down ....

Pull the radiator - quick, easy and saves you lots of hassle.

Yes I would do it that way. Pulling the radiator usually requires you to pull the core support, radiator and fan shroud all in one. Removing the balancer is a plus but I usually dont.
