I have a 80 vette with power antena, It stays up all the time (not original radio). I removed the antena and jumpered some wires and it goes up and down fine. Here is the problem that i dont understand.
I have 3 wires green, white, grey. when hot is to green and touching the other 2 wires the antenna goes up. then I have to ground green and hot to the other 2 wires antenna goes down. I am confussed. I would expect that 1 wire woulod be hot and the other to would be up or down.
can somone please help me with the scematic so I know how to wire it into my radio (previous owner was a hack at wiring)
You have a relay mounted under your hand brake cover for the power antenna. The signal wire from your radio goes to it and with the adding and removing power or ground (depending on your aftermarket radio) to the relay causes the antenna to go up and down.
You will see the three wires (green ,gray, white) that plug into one side of the relay. The other plug is coming from the radio area . I do not have the wiring diagram here at home but I believe they are (orange ,yellow, black) but I wont swear by it.
I can let you know tomorrow, unless someone else has it already posted.

As stated, that's the function of the relay to switch the combinations.
The yellow wire coming from the (original) radio is the trigger, the orange wire coming from under the dash near the radio is constant hot which provides power to lower the antenna when the key is off.
I think the relay for 80 is under the center armrest all the way to the back as in the 78/79s, but it may be in the jack storage compartment.
Look for a relay with white, green, gray, orange, yellow, and black(ground) wires and you found it.
The orange wire is the CTSY/CLK fuse (20 amp) which powers your interior lights and many other items. Make sure that the orange wire going to the relay has power and the black wire going to teh relay is grounded. The yellow wire is the wire that is coming from the radio and switches power on and off to the relay to make the antenna go up and down,.

Mine is just dangling buy the hole, it looks like a couple of lower brackets are required to hold it in place? anybody have any pictures of what they look like so a guy can make them? i have one still bolted to the body, but it is no where near the antena?

Here's how a FACTORY late79-82 antenna looks mounted. Top mounts to the fender with the bezel, bottom is a simple L bracket....
Something is a miss here? The hole in the fender is too small for the shaft to fit through. But i dont think it is supposed too? It looks like the factory Antena, all hard wiring, no disconnect clips.
Just the chrome bezel fits through the fender hole, the antenna mast tube jambs up against the bottom of the fender.
Looks like you got everything there that you need.
