Has anyone else had a problem with the deck lid after replacing the weatherstip. It seems to be applied correctly it is just too damn thick and won't allow the deck lid to close now.
When I replaced the w/strip on the 68's decklid, I adjusted the latch plates upwards to allow the lid to latch. As the w/strip compressed the latches were adjusted downward as it compressed and now the lid fits flush again. I could close it after the new w/strip was installed but it required slamming quite hard and I didn't want to crack or break anything so the w/strip was allowed to fit into it's new home.
Did you use the foam or latex weatherstiping? In reading other threads in the past the type of material makes a difference as far as compressibility.

Any ideas?????
you may have to shim it a little the latches that is maybe some thin washers under bolts or some solid card board like on rhe back of a tablet might work cant recall from in the house what the catch has for adjustment butm im sure there is some there

If your weatherstrip was hollow in teh area that allowed it to be glued to teh sides and teh rear portion of teh deck lid. You have teh correct style of w/s. If it is solid, that may casue some problems.
I install them from time to time, and before the original is removed, I check the decklid alignment and fit. Then again when the w/s is removed. I install the w/s ( which is the corect sytle) and close the lid. YES it is hard to get it to close, but I do not have time to re-adjust a decklid for customers who have to keep coming back time and time again to get latches re-adjusted. Usually a very good hard steady pressure push gets it to catch and I let it set for a day. Then it begins to take seat and gets easier and easier. I do not slam it and I am cautious of the stainless steel plate that is riveted to the rain gutter area by your latch on the body. I make sure that the latches are working correctly and push DOWN hard. I have never damaged any car EVER by doing it this way. CORRECT placement of the end of the w/s where they glue to the deck lid by the door jamb is important.

Ever since I have had my car, I have learned to slam hell out of that deck lid, otherwise that flip catch can get jammed up under there and neither latch or release, the catch on my pass side was cut on one of the legs to help alleviate the problem, but wouldn't you know it, the driver's side just jammed yesterday....so now to repair the strike plate on the plastic, and modify that catch also....
I got the hollow weatherstrip, it was supposed to be the good stuff when I bought it a couple years ago. All the other pieces seemed to fit OK.
I was looking at the latches that connect to the inside of the car and it did not look like there was any adjustment. I will look again.
I did get it to latch with a lot of pressure on each side, and it is really buldging up the middle of the rear of the lid, I hope it does compress a little.
I will wait and see before I try to move the latches up.
