Custom Exhaust/Auto Transmission Question

Custom Exhaust/Auto Transmission Question
For those who have had custom true dual exhaust systems fabricated and have automatic transmissions, did the shop have to push in (flatten it on onside of the pipe) diameter of the pipe to route it around the shift linkage on the transmission. Is doing this necessary. I think doing this restricts the flow or the exhaust on the left hand side. Is there a way the pipe can be routed around the linkage without crushing the pipe? If anyone has pics please post.

My '72 has had a Muncie from GM, and a 700 and now a 200 4r, and none of them were a exhaust problem....
now here is a tip....cut the loops on bottom and build bridgework structure across the top to strengthen the beam....
then you have a nice open area to hang your exhaust..
