Default 79 Drivers door handle linkage not connected.

On my new Vette, I cannot open the drivers door using the outer door handle and the key wont turn in the lock. I removed the inner door panel and noticed that the rod hanging from the handle wasnt connected to anything.
The handle was not secured in place and I lifted it out and the rod fell off.

Can any one post up a diagram or exploded view of how this rod connects to the handle and where it connects to the door lock mechanism please.

Thanks.

Your outside door handle is missing the lever pull back spring too!

Worth a check in the bottom of the door for parts. The pass. side clips should work. As you are in the U.K., clips are commonly used to hold the L end of the rods in many cars (normally plastic clips are used which will work).

Looks like I need the spring as well...nothing in the base of the door

Are these springs avilable as an aftermarket part or would I need a complete door handle assembly?

When I put mine new ones in the locks would not unlock. After hours of adjusting and messing around I found the problem was elliminated by adjusting the rod you found disconnected. Threading the connector up and down to the correct location is necessary. In my situation I noticed that when connected if I set it pretty much in the center of the "slack" area and everything worked great. Just a little experience sharing.

To my knowledge the spring is only available with the handle.

Willcox, How much can you do an aftermarket handle for shipped to the UK with a gasket? Not worried how long it takes so USPS would be fine if you ship using them. Also, as this is a temp fix, not worried about it being an import....sorry guys! Just want to get in and out of the car whilst I work on her!
