I did a search and either I found nothing or my searching abilities suck!
I was going to look under the C3 tomorrow since I am off and see if a power steering hose is broken or loose or if the pump/reservoir is just leaking so I can fix the issue and have power steering instead of working out my arms when turning :-)
Question is I was going to run to Oreiilys/AutoZone/Advance Auto/Pep Boys to buy some ramps to get under this thing but not sure if any of those places would sell something with low enough grade for how low our cars sit. I found some online but this isnt helping me for tomorrow. :-) Hopefully someone on here knows this answer..
If this is not in the correct section let me know and I will change it if I can..

The ramps that I have are 3 feet long and raise the wheels 6 inches off the ground, they are black plastic and I can drive off and on with no scraping. Think I got them at AZ. PG.
I bought a set of rhino ramps from the auto parts store. I think they were around 40 bucks. They work great for changing the oil on my 70.
I saw some mention of those online when I did a search for corvette ramps but also when they where mentioned I saw mention of something about a 2x12 as well. Where you just able to use them without anything else or mods?

They do not need anything else. Like I mentioned they work well with my 70, but I dont know how good they would be with a newer car like an 81 or 82.
I have a few sets of the Rhino Ramps and they are great for the C3. I can drive up the ramps without any problem. C4, C5, and C6 need a little help, a 2"x12" about 2' long works to raise the car enough so the front spoiler doesn't hit the ramp before the tires start up the slope.
I agree with silver 76 that a good jack and jackstands are the way to go. I have a set of the plastic ramps and you can get under the car with them, but there's not much room to work.

Had a VERY bad experience with my Rhino Ramps.....I was going up the ramps getting ready for a show, when the passenger side ramp scooted forward, slid and flew out from under the car.....smashing the side (where the opening of the "gill" is) and putting a 6" hole!!!! this all happened within 1 second so I couldn't react.
Now I have a set of these I got from Ecklers....never had ANY scooting, problems or ANYTHING!! I highly recommend them!! For peace of mind, etc.
No disrespect intended - but those scare the Hell out of me.
I have the same ramps and love them. I don't have ANY problems with them. Some guys say they are scared that they will fall over sideways. NOT true. I have pushed sideways on the car and it doesn't move more than the supension on the car will let it move. I've spent many an hour under my car and never a problem. I did use 2x12's instead of the suggested 2x10's.
They are not cheap to make either. But cheaper than a lift Shel Myers has some GREAT ideas to add to these ramps. May have to incorporate and idea or two there.

I'm not concerned that they'd fall over, and they'll clearly support the weight - but they have no strength in shear (fore/aft) at all. A cross-brace or a cripple (excuse the term) between the uprights would make me feel a lot better. Even with the sheathing on the sides, IMHO it's at risk - especially with OSB. 3/4 ply might be a better choice.
I had one of our structural engineers look it it quickly, and he agreed that something more than the box frame is needed in his opinion.
Just one guy's opinion, no warrranty expressed or implied. Carry on

Sorry billa that's what I get for assuming something. I thought the sheathing on the sides was enuf, even though I did use OSB. May have to put some more thought into it. But I have run up on the ramps (too quickly) and had to hit the brakes pretty hard on more than 1 occasion. I screwed the OSB to EVERY upright.
Will be using the ramps later today and will have to have a closer look. Thanx for the heads up and concern.
