playing with my dad's 1968 today and tried to close the passenger door and it didn't want to close. finally i got it and now... it wont open. looked down the panel and saw a broken latch inside. theleft of the two metal pieces has broken & stuck down. any suggestions would be VERY helpful. also, if you know a safe way to remove the door panel with the door fixed close that would also be apreciated. thanks for your help guys!!!
A suggestion if you can't tell what part of the latch mechanism you need to trip:
Look down into the DRIVER'S side door panel as you operate the interior or exterior release mechanism to see how the door lock moves. You might want to remove the driver's side door panel to get a better look at how the lock mechanism works.
I would expect significant damage if the door panel is removed with the door closed.
It is hard to describe but there are two betal latches inside the door panel and the left side one is stuck down. its odd how this break causes the door to lock shut but seems like the situation. might be getting in & out "dukes of hazard" style for a bit i guess
