I've acquired all the parts I need to build a 489 incher for the vette, but I ran into a 'complication' today. I came across a 'blown up' ZZ502/502, and much to the chagrin of my wife, it followed me home. It was partially disassembled and will likely need two sleeves if I decide to use it. It broke the rods on #1 and #2 and scored up the walls pretty good. Crank will need to be turned on the rod journals, and one piston kissed one of the heads; but both are repairable.

So now, I've all the parts for a 496 AND a 502. SO, first question, I've never played with the Gen6 stuff; though I've built some 40+ engines over the years. Will the roller cam I have, oil pan, etc. for a mk 4 work on a Gen 6?

But, it has occured to me that with a 2-pc adapter and my 4.25" crank; all I'm lacking is a set of pistons for a 540 incher. My car's a 72 LS5 and I don't really want to do anything to it like fender flares, etc. Would the extra power be unusable given the fact that I don't wan't to modify the body? I've a set of Rect port Edelbrock RPM heads, 2.19/1.88 (I could use the 2.25/1.88 roval port GM heads from the 502), an RPM air gap intake, and an 850 Holley. What do you think of using this on a 540? I'm of the opinion it's probably too small; even for a street engine. The hyd roller cam I have is: Duration @ .050: 242/246Lift: .642/.663Lobe Center: 110 deg. I'm a little out of my element with these size engines. What say you? Any other considerations?
