Oh no, Not the Cutting coil spring ? again.
How may loops for 2"? No need for a debate. I want me heating them the oven or using a torch. Just a plain old cut off grinder. Thanks

Budman,
I doubt anyone could give you the "correct" answer to your question, BUT try one coil. You can always cut more off it`s kinda tough to add it back though ! And YES the cutoff wheel is the way to go.

I agree with redvetracer. You might even find that one side will need cut less or more than the other----if you really want to get picky.
I think it'll also depend on whether you will be cutting the "stock" 10 coils or the replacement shorter coils? I cut 3/4 of a coil from the new shorter(but thicker) springs and that gave me about an inch. You gotta watch though. What's the measurement of your from fender lip? Stock for my '70 is about 28.0 inches. The new shorter springs reduced that to about 27.5 inches and my cutting lowered it to 26.5 inches. I don't think I can go any lower than that-----with a full tank of gas, one of the rear tailpipe clamps, right by the differential will bottom out on speed bumps. Other than that it's a great "down in the weeds" look!
Here's a pic of the difference in the springs----both are before any cutting.

Buddy,
I cut about 3/4 from the open end to knock off about one inch. It also made the springs line up in
the pockets pretty well.

Budman, I have the old springs from my vette just laying around if you want an extra set, or maybe a practice set  . They were in good shape when I removed them to install the new ones from the VB suspension kit I ordered. No rust on them and not broken, they may be a little lazy so you might not even need to cut them.
