Default Engine Numbers Question

On the rear top of the engine block next to the distributer are the numbers "H200". Is this number a build date for the block and if so what date.

That's the casting date for the block, not the assembly date. Depending on the casting number and which plant, H200 is:

H=August
20=20th day of the month
0= 1970

Thanks Mike - I just wanted to confirm the numbers match the stamp on the engine pad - they do.

This is my old car...I don't remember the numbers, but I remember everything being legit....How is that thing running now?

Pad number 71S101934 V0903CGZ I believe this means the engine was assmebled on Sept 3, 1970. It would make sense that the block was cast August 20.

Chris,

Car is running great. Everything is indeed legit. Just never new the existence of that partcular casting number and wanted to verify.

Car runs great there is much more low end. Sounds great too. Engine is still being broken in so I haven't taken it over 3500. Went with a roller cam, five angle valve job on original heads, forged pistons. I can get the particulars if your interested.

Mitch, glad to hear...do a search on my posts in the last few weeks and take a listen to my big block with the side exhaust....I do miss that LT1...I wish I could have both!

Chris,

Your LS6 sounds great, Mean cam - more radical then what I have. Must be a blast to drive. You mentioned in a post that you didn't think it was making the power it should - were you able to fix / tune?

I would also love a second vette - 68 to 72 big block to go with my LT-1 would be ideal. Too bad thats not going to happen any time soon.

The whole week beginning the 28th will be a corvette week for me, Carlisle on Saturday - then me and a buddy are driving up to Bowling Green for and th 15th aneversary of the corvette museum. We will drive up in his 98 C5. It will be nice driving a car just as fast as mine - but comfortable. Still I would never trade mine for his.

While the car runs and purrs like a kitten, it just feels a little weak. There is an engine guy here in CT that I want to take it to, and see if its just a matter of timing/tuning/tweeking, or its worn out.

I am very close to driving it to Gaithersburg and let Tony work on it.

That bowling green should be fun...I have been to several Carlisle events, but not a corvette one...the club I am in is going to have a hospitality tent, Club Corvette of CT. If you see the tent stop by.
