Default Heat Riser correct POSITION???

on my 73 L-48 (2" exhaust) - there are three ways to mount the Heat Riser Valve - just below the RH Exhaust manifold.

Can some one tell me which installation is correct? The AIM is not very clear.

Pic would be good, also

Thanks!!!

Sorry I dont have a pic. The bimetallic coil and weight goes on the backside of the manifold and the shaft runs parallel to the engine crankshaft. When cold the weight will be pointing at pass fender.

I agree. Mine is cold-welded open.

I just drilled a little hole and used some copper house wire. Can't really see it installed. Should be able to do it without removing.

Why didn't you just remove the shaft and flap and drill and tap and install a screw where the shaft was ?
Did you install an electric choke ?

Not trying to butcher any parts too much so it can be returned to stock if someone needs too. The Greenies might come back to.
I would at least put shorties on.

This is S Florida, no choke here.

2 throttle pumps, 20 seconds of feathering and your done.

How long does it take for your car to warm up in Texas ??
the correct position is off of the car !
They make a replacment spacer, if you wish to go that way.

Default thx

Well - I was thinking about the "spacer" in lieu of the heat riser valve. Agreed - we have enough heat in TX...

I have to disagree with the former posters about the correct position.

I tried it yesterday - and the weight hits the Starter/Solenoid Shield, so this can't be correct (all factory parts).

One of the other positions, the weight hits the side of the block.

So as it turns out - only one installation will work...
