I'm also planning on doing this in my 77. I don't have it yet but I'm going to pick it up from NYC next month so I've already been planning stuff out. I came across this web site which really helps (i knew nothing about painting interiors) I have not seen the vette in quite some time so I cant remember how the dash is in it, but if its a pain i'll just paint it while its still in the car. but obviously paint the harder to get to places first and tape/paper stuff up real good.
I am looking for suggestions for on dash removal of a 78 Corvette. I would like to brighten the dash, and steering column.
- Hints for dash removal.
- Time frame to complete.
I was told to repaint the dash in the car, and not try to disassemble. I am not quite sure if I like this idea.
am I missing something here. Wilcox tells about the pad but nothing on removing the dash. I have it gutted and I can’t figure out how to get it up past the pillars!?????????????? HELP
take all the trim off the pillars, carefully flex the pad from the middle, it doesnt take much and the dash pad should slide thru and out. Slide it out one side at a time.
you carefully flex the 42 year old pad to remove and reinstall. that is when the good pad splits right down the middle. PAINT IT IN PLACE!!! you need a new windshield anyway. i can see all the stone chips and sand scratches from here...
