Default Automatic tranmission issues

I purchased a 69 vette (in pieces) and am in the process of putting it back together. My AT does not to want to shift into any gear period. Any ideas of where to start? Thanks in advance.

Is it leaking at all? Last month my tranny was leaking and I did not see any fluid on the dipstick. I filled it up to its normal level and the tranny shifted fine for a while and then suddenly it left me stranded (would not shift into any gear) I later found that the speedo driven gear sleeve seperated from the tranny and had fallen out. The fluid was leaking from this area. The reason the sleeve came apart from the tranny because the retainer (a $ 3.00 part) was missing. Anyway, I installed a new tranny (after I reconnect the driveshaft and cables) and will be back on the road next week. Glad you found the cause.
