Default HEI Distributors

Does anyone know:

1. How much mech advance a stock HEI distributor should provide.

2. At what RPM should the stock unit be "all in."

My 1977 L82 unit seems to provide only about 16* and is "all in" at only 1800 rpm. I am pretty sure it is stock, but everything else I have read seems to indicate that the factory set up isn't all in until much higher (redline) rpms. I get the same results using the factory weights and center plate with the heavy springs from the MR gasket kit.

Check out the "sticky" post above about timing. He explains your question in great detail. I believe that 1800 rpm is where you want it from that article.

I did read the Sticky in great detail. I originally posted a question there but got no responses. I think 1800 is too low. According to what I have read, I don't want to be all in until 2500. Also, I think HEI distributors are supposed to give 20* of advance. Mine is only about 16* Since I believe my car is stock, I wonder if these numbers are typical, or if something else is going on.
