Default And the next snapped off part is......

the turn signal lever, snapped off flush with whatever it is connected to.

How hard is it to fix this one, and how do you fix it ?

Gonna have to lay off the gym for a while, costing me too much in broken stuff

It sounds to me like the steering wheel is going to have to come off. It's not to bad of a job. Pull up Jim Shea's corvette steering papers and you will be able to follow his diagrams and tips. If your 80 is similiar to my 77 tilt/tele wheel you will be able to use common hand tools with the exception of going to A/Zone and renting their steering wheel remover and locking plate removal tool. Just pay attention to the horn button and attaching shims and rod.

First time that's ever happened. j/k

You might be able to remove the broken piece with a good needle nose pliers. Sometimes there's just enough left to get a grip on it. If not, it's tear down time for the column. IIRC, the lever goes into the wiper switch. Just tear it down far enough to get to the back of the wiper switch, and you can push the broken stub out. Not easy, but not as bad as some things are either.

So since I pushed that piece in as far as it will go and then epoxied the lever back into the hole I am pretty well screwed now if that doesn't work

Can you EZ out it? Or drill and chase the threads

If it goes fast and stops good you don't need turn signals. Or the rear view mirrors.

Good luck

Just remember guys, it "Motor"head not TurnSignalHead or HornHead,

btw I can figure this stuff out easy, it is just faster to get answers here and there is usually an easier shortcut way of doing something someone has figured out

That nub wasn't coming out, it was broke flush, it also pushed right back easy, is it supposed to be threaded ?

We'll see tomorrow. If what I did worked it took me 5 minutes and I might change my forum name to TurnSignalMan

If not I have to fix the the horn anyway so I'll be up to elbows into the steering column, good thing Corvette Central has a free shipping offer this weekend

Kind of bad news. It's NOT threaded in. It just kind of snaps in. And it goes into the wiper switch, so if that's fubar you'll need a wiper switch too.

Yeah I just saw a picture of one and you are right it is not threaded and you are also right I am looking at a new switch. Only problem Corvette Central seems to have the switch but not the lever

First lets straighten something out, Tilt-tele column has threaded in turn signal lever, Std column has bolted on lever that will require you to pull wheel, adapter, lock plate to get to the screw that secure lever to turn signal switch. If you have Tilt-tele you should be able to reach in with needle nose pliers and unscrew lever. Hope this helps you out, good luck!

Wayne, you need to get back to work, so you stop breaking things. Good luck with the repair.

Try the tips in this paper. The lever plugs into the dimmer pivot. You should be able to get the stub out of the pivot without disassembling the steering column.

Jim is this part used only in the Vette or was it shared around the other car lines?

MotorHead
If it was shared around I might be able to help you out with parts I have a bout a dozen different columns at the shop as well as a couple turn signal switches in the tool box
