Tach went nuts
I installed a new board on my 76's tach. (HEI BTW). It worked fine for a while and then it started going crazy. 
When the car is started, the needle does not move, then when reved a bit, it moves backwards to 4000 and stops.
When you are on the road it stays at 4000 (after having run backwards to get there), when you slow down it drops back to zero.
I'm guessing I need another new board?

I don't know what happened but the tach is now working correctly!
The car has been sitting for over a month w/o being started, yesterday I went for a drive and the tach was functioning fine.
