Trans Throttle/detent cable adjustment
I've been messing around with rebuilding this 81 engine. Changed carb and distributor to non-computer controlled (edelbrock/HEI). Does anyone know how to properly install and adjust the cable that goes from the carb to the transmission so that it will downshift properly. Also, any suggestions on disabling the check engine light and buzzer due to removal of stock carb/dist would also be greatly appreciated.

350, 3 speed auto. OK. the detent cable just does forced downshifts, so when they happen os pretty well up to you. As you open the throttle, the cable is pulled. With everything relaxed, most cables have about 1/4 to 3/8 showing past the lug on the carb. If you adjust it with less, it downshifts earlier. More = later. the service manual will have the correct adjustment per GM, but that should get you in the ballpark. You'll also need to check that swapping the carb and dizzy won't affect the TCC if that tranny has it.
