Default Where did this come from ???????

Where did this come from ???????
Today I was working on installing my new tach cable
and replacing globes etc,I dropped the column and removed the tach & speedo and all went well until
I'd just tightened the 2 bolts that hold the column
when this "SHIM" ??? fell out.
I've got no idea where it came from (cant locate it
in my AIM either).
So the question is -Does anyone know where it goes ??
Thanks

GAV

Looks like a standard A arm type shim , but sometimes they are used to shim the column down so the column doesnt push up too much on the dash.

I was going to agree with everyone on the alignment shims for the upper control arms. First time I have heard of the shims on the steering column. Just goes to show you learn something new everyday.

Here is a pic of the upper control arm shims.

Alright now this is getting out of hand!

I got lucky a few times only because I'm always going through what's left of my parts car. I think the most helpful thing I do is take pictures, it just seems easier than trying to explain what I'm looking at.

I don't mind searching old threads to help find answers if I remember seeing one that addressed a certain question and more than happy to point guys to Willcox's help page because they have put so much work into it and there is so much free information there.

I've even got members PMing me asking about their wiper systems and mine hasn't worked in over 3 years when they just plain stopped during my inspection. Needless to say it didn't pass inspection, thankfully I know a guy..

I'm happy to help if I can but trust me there are plenty of members here that know these cars alot better than I do.

Again, I'm happy to help but don't make me out to be some sort of guru.

Yes Guys, It was a steering column shim !!!
The Dash is back together (the righthand conversion made it a nightmare to get the tach cable lined up).
I even managed to replace all the globes as well as
getting my brake warning light working too.
So that's it for now !!!!!
WRONG.............. Now it's the RAG JOINT (Steering coupling). While checking the colomn I noticed
the rag joint is falling apart .
I'm assuming it shouldn't be brittle.
So now to find out what rag I need (Not sure if it's a Vette steering setup -cause of R/H conversion).
Does IT ever end????????
"i just wanna drive the damned thing"
I'll keep ya'll updated
