I finally got to weigh my car. I was shocked to say the least. It came in at 2780!!!! Thats with the autofab 4 link and a 12 bolt rear. I know stock 80's start at 3200lbs so I thought maybe 3000 Lbs with the full cage. Stock dash, seats, door panels, electric windows and rear bumper support. I did remove the front crash bar.

What else did you do to reduce weight? That is a huge difference.

Hey L79, You got is driving! How do you like the 4 link? What all did you do to remove the front crash bar? I am ready to add my 6 point roll bar and wanted to go ahead and get rid of some simple weight to trade out for the roll bar.

That is awsome weight, especially with the cage!

All heat and a/c are removed. no radio or rugs. Alumium fuel cell. Its an aluminum headed small block with aluminum water pump. Thats really it.

4 link is good. I need to tune it now. I did a quick plot of the I/C and I think it is around 41" long and 4.5" high. I need to test at a track rental which we have a date of october 14. I have the 28x 10 hoosier slicks on it and it will blow the tire away from a roll in first, second or third gear. The car is BRUTAL!!! With around 575 hp and 2780 lbs its a hand full. I cut the crash bar after the bolts to the chassis so the fiberglass reinforcement still compress it and the radiator support still had a place to bolt to and the bottom. I'll try and get a picture in a little while. I dont know if I explained it right.

Here are a couple of pictures. You can see the round tube that I cut off. It used to go all the way up to the front of the nose and had a big square plate welded to it. The plate bolted to the nose right behind the License plate. If you look at the second picture you can see the fiberglass support that the plate was flush against. It still has the GM sticker on it. I needed the piece where the round tube welded to the support that bolted to the chassis so I could drill a hole in it to support the radiator support. You can see the bolt to the right of where the round tube used to be. That is what give the nose support now. There is also a bar from the bottom of the radiator support up to the front of the nose.

Wow, the 80's are definitely lighter than my 78 was.
L79, I found that setting the shocks on around 2 gave me a good hook with a 1.48 60foot. If I tighten the shocks up to 6 or 7, I can't even bounce the rear at all by pushing down on it. On 2, I can bounce it up and down easily. I can still blow the tires off on the street from a stop though. I don't think there's any way around that.

I'll try that shock setting. I have them at 3 or 4 right now. I know from my vegas 4 link set up the rear was very soft and the springs were way lighter than the vette.
Let me know what holes you have your bars set at if you can, I'm curious as to your I/C location. Let me know the measurement from the ground to the bottom hole of the chassis bracket.

If you dont have a cage it should be under 3000 lbs. I'm sure my cage added 100 lbs. That would make the car 2680 or less.

I would liike to know what mine is now, too. My top bar is one hole up from the bottom and the bottom bar is in both of the lowest holes. My measurement from the ground the the center of the lowest bottom hole on the frame bracket is 7.5 inches.
I have Performance Trends 4 link calculator, but I haven't played with it at all.

So your on A1 D6 I think your bottom bar is headed up towards the front of the car. your I/C should be in the mid high 30's and over 7" off the ground. My measurement from the ground to the bottom hole is 6 7/8, a little lower than your car. Right now I have my top bar just like yours but my bottom bars are second axle bracket hole and in the bottom of the chassis bracket hole. This come out to be B1 D6. This gave me about the 41" and 6.6 high I/C

Any chance you could send me a copy of the calculator. I have been using the one one line that I think I sent you a while ago.

I know my 78 seats are different, but I wonder where the weight savings is in those cars. Now I'm going to have to take another look at mine!

The fiberglass is supposed to be thinner. I know the original 80 hood was as light as the aftermarket hood and they were both much lighter than the early L82 hood I had on it at first. I would also say that the metal of the chassis is thinner also or just junk because 80 to 82 are known to be prone to cracking. My 80 seats are just a plastic bucket with two cushions in them. They are almost as light as a plastic race seat.

Dave sent me a bunch of pics of his install. Maybe I can forward them to you if you PM me your email address. I just got my Jegster kit and am waiting to do the installation until I get to play with the car at the track a few more times.
Mine is definitely a street car. That's why I've waited to strip anything I might regret to strip.
My seats weigh 50 - 60 lbs each!
