The underhood light on the 77 attaches to the hood near the driver's side hood hinge..
The years of the closing the hood had probably loosened the screws and they fell out or enlarged the attaching holes..
You can use s slightly larger screw but will have open the holes on the bracket slightly..
OOOOOOOOhhhhhhh....A mercury switch in the base of the socket hu?....I thought it was the plunger at the top of the firewall on the passenger side......Another mystery revealed !.....
Funny, I thought the plunger was for both the alarm and the light.I have it disconnected and I took the light bulb out.....The bulb is back in now and I almost got blinded in the process........Mercury switch in the socket......I would not have guessed that in a million years!
