I have this 79 Vette, and the previous owner installed a Edelbrock Performer Carb and intake. The transmission kick down cable is not connected because there is no bracket. The previous owner said he left the cable loose so he could manually shift it. It has a AT trans.
My question is, where can I find the correct (or one that will fit) trans kick down cable bracket ?
I like being able to punch the accelerator to hit passing gear. Is there really any good reason not to have the kick down connected ???
Thanks for all the info. I never figured out either why anyone would not want that connected. Now that I know where to find the bracket, I'll be connected in the next few days for sure!
It has a kick down connection on the same bracket that the throttle cable connects to. It is at the bottom of this bracket. I can take a pickture of it tonight and send it to you if this would help.
A pic would be great ! I'm not really sure (without a pic) where it needs to connect on the carburetor linkage. A pic would be awesome...thanks !

It goes on the same mech that the accelerator cable does..but on the lower prong...Pull it all the way forward an slip it over the "ball" and pull it back.Above the spring and below the accelerator cable...That's all....PM me your e-mail and I'll get a picture to you asap.
On my 80 its a seperate bracket that bolts to the rear two intake bolts. There is no place to mount it on the throtle bracket. If you have a late 79 it might be the same.
I got my kick down bracket today, and got it installed. The transmission isn't shifting down when I punch the accelerator, so I'm sure I just need to adjust the linkage where it has less travel. That seems like that should work.

i dont know about that......my guess is that the cable has become disengaged in the transmission. when you manually pull on the cable can you feel it pull something? you may just have to loosen the one bolt on the attachment bracket on the trans and slip the cable back on. if you do this use blue RTV sealent on the bracket when you put it back in .....i have been using a 700r4 for so long i have forgotten all i use to know about the th350.....but isnt there some vacuum modulator on the trans also?? i wonder if that got diconnected and not hooked up again in the swap
I messed around with the linkage, and now it is really kickin' butt!! I'm so glad I hooked this kick down back up. I love the way it slams you back in the seat when you step on it. I knew there was something missing.

Now put a B&M shift kit in the tranny...You'll REALLY love it !....
I just installed Vortec heads and manifold on my '79. The kickdown bracket mounts on the last two bolts of the intake. The Vortec manifold has different pattern. Bracket will not work. Who offers a bracket for Vortec?
As mentioned above, Lokar sells universal brackets that you can set up for kickdowns, they'll also have provisions for a throttle return spring. Pretty stuff too.
