So I just bought a C6 and I'm trying to sell my 79. I've had hardly any problems with this car, and the day I let a guy test drive it, he gets back to my house, tries to start it, and it wont re-start. I have no idea what happened or where to begin to diagnose the problem. The car has power, headlights, windows, interior lights, everything. But when I try to start it all I hear is clicking from what sounds like it's behind the passenger seat, and then nothing, it just wont start. I know it has to be something simple as with these cars it usually is, but I REALLY have to get this thing sold since that was part of the deal with my wife and me getting my '05.
P.S. - I tried the search function, and didn't find anything that fit my situation. I'm sure it's out there, but with all the posts, and the fact that I'm really in kind of a hurry since I've got a potential buyer I will admit that I am trying to "cheat" a little bit.
well clicking sounds like either a dead starter or a bad connection somewhere, first thing to do i try to follow the connection from the battery to the starter, you said you heard the clicking behidn the passenger seat? I dont know the wiring schematics that well to say what might be in that area, but if i had to guess you either have a bad ground connection from the battery(check the grounding wire from the battery and starter) or something in your starter got fried, sorry i cant be more specific, but until you get the engine turning over you cant even check for spark or anything like that.
Okay, so this is just really ODD. I had a neighbor come show me how to jump the solenoid in which the car started right up. I let it sit there and run for a while, and now it restarts just fine. I'm guessing I have a short somewhere, or a relay switch going bad, but the good news is I was able to get it started, and now it's starting again so I guess until it happens again I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
i forgot to mention that trick to bypass it, now this time when you get it to start up, let the engine get hot then try the starter again. If you have any issues, youve got problems with the starter probably from heat and its not allowing enough power to get to the starter.
