When I bought my '74 in december the wipers didnt work at all. After replacing the switch and wiper motor they worked great. Now after a month or so, when you turn them on its like they are trying. They come up about an inch or two and go back down and try again until turned off. This happens on any speed setting. However if I push the washer button they spring to life and clean the windshield.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Sorry I can't help you one bit, but I can laugh with you. The wipers on my 1978 SA are possessed. It's something I just live with and now pass it over.
Originally, they didn't work very well at all. Actually they counted  I would turn them on, and they would do 3 passes then turn off, then come back on again and the number of passes would increase by 1 until about 15 continuous passes, then go back to 3 again :smash: :smash: :smash:
I installed a new switch and now they work, but only on "7 seconds to orgasm" speed  Turning the switch off returns them to the wiper bay, where they proceed to twitch like a dying animal until the washer button is pressed.
Take off all the wire connections especially the gound or grounds that attach to the wiper motor and the switch. Clean each connector with somthing that leaves the metal brioght and shiny like a sharp blade or sandpaper. Then reconnect and try again. Grounds and connections seem hypersensative on mine. Also, make sure the switch housing is making a good ground in it's mount.
I agree.Grounds on the wiper circuit seem to be the most common problem.I know on the earlier C3`S there is a single ground wire just to the passenger side of the distributor that is often left loose during maintenance. It should bolt to the back of head.Good luck.
