Default 4x6 Speaker trick?

When I got the C3 the front speakers where missing the only ones in are the 6x9's in the rear. I pulled the 4x6 that I had in the dash of my Jeep that were not even hooked up out and was going to put them into the Vette until I tried to lay them in the spot and found that they are too thick for the stock hole.
The speakers I have these Infinity Reference 4x6.

Question I have is, does anyone know a trick to getting speakers like this in, or do I need to put these on a self and look for some thinner 4x6's?

I may have actually found the answer.. I found someone on this forum that has the same speakers but it seems they took off the dash pad and installed them from underneath the pad. Does this sound right?

be careful removing the pad, not so easy as the windshield interferes with the removal.

Dash speakers to 77 installed from bottom. Consider the kick panel location which is better. About all the dash location is good for is tweeters.

I disconnected the dash speakers in the 70s.

On my 79 if the dash speakers are too deep they hit the speedometer on the left side and the glove box on the right. I assume your 80 is the same. I wouldn't try to modify the speedometer or glove box for deeper speakers. Look in crutchfield for speakers with a depth that will fit. They list the depth of their speakers. This will give you a starting point and let you know what is available.

I have these speakers too. the large magnets are More of your problem, than the depth. If I remember, I did some slight grinding to each side, the speedo and the glove box. They still would not lay flat, but with the original grills in place they look fine. At higher volumes and mostly low frequentcies they buzz or shake the grills somewhat. They need capacitors on them to shield them from bass tones. Mostly because they will play lower bass than most 4x6s. just my thoughts

I agree, about all the upper dash location is good for is putting ignition noise in your speakers, I would go for the lower kick panels, they will bolt in there although I prefer the Infinity CF 4032 4" round speakers and a woofer in the rear.

Thank you all for input. After looking at what it takes to pull the dash put of my 80 since the upper and lower is one piece I might do the kick panel for now and then when I pickup my new dash look for some speakers that would be easier to install into the dash then get some 4" or 6" for the kick panels. I am also looking at a sub/amp for the rear, I was going to go with one of those sub/amp combo that I have seen posted on here a few times but heard from others in person that they are not that great. I might see how much Kicker would charge me to make a custom box and setup for my car. My alma mater is in the same town as Kicker so I am there every Saturday during football season home games.
