I found two frames a 1976 auto and a 1978. I know I have to change the last 18" of frame rails, the bumper cross member and add something for the 4-speed on the 1976.
Could I just weld my 73 bumper cross member to the end of the 76 & 78 rails without splicing the last 18"?
Would the same changes apply to the 1978?

I think the newer 76 or 78 frame will fit as is. Just fabricate new rear bumper brackets to hook to newer frame. I will look at a 73 and a 75 tomorrow and see if I see any reason it will not work.. I do not think you need to cut/splice frame at rear unless you want it to look 100% original. I will measure and send reply as soon as I can check it out.
