I am having an issue with the wipers. When I purchased the vette, it had been sitting for 15 to 20 years. The wiper motor worked, but very slow. I sourced a new motor, but found them all to have an additional wire on the side. My original motor has only the 3 post connector. I was told by Ecklers that this wire is for the wiper door. I have several wires that are cut under the hood (PO) and no idea what they are for.
I guess my question is if I have the incorrect motor, which wire does pig tail connect to?
I would also appreciate a wiring diagram if anyone can e-mail or post.
I don't know if this will help you, but here's a pic of my 71' wiper motor. Kind of hard to see since the dizzy is in the way. It has the 3 wire connector plus a double ground wire. and a single pink wire coming out the side.
The wire plugs into a 12 gage red with white stripe wire that then goes to the wiper door switch (it has a molded on rubber boot) on the firewall (it goes into a plug with another red/white wire). I happen to have another harness (long story) so I took a photo of the wire. Hope this helps.
Thanks, that is a great help. I tested te red with a white stripe, but found no current and was not sure. Does the swithch send power to the pigtail or the red with white stripe to the motor?
Yes, the switch sends power to the the red/white wire in the side of the motor. If the door isn't open, the motor won't run. If you manually close the switch, you should have power to the motor. The other end of the red/white wire goes to the "wiper" fuse.
