Got my 82 trans rebuild back (had dropped 3 n 4, go figure!) and I replaced the fuel pump with an 85 year to correct rough idle. Seemed to start up and idle great. I hooked it up to WINaldl and there are no error codes so the owner and I took it out for a long drive today here in hot as heck Pensacola. Car is stock. No throttle body linkage play, the manifold bolts are tight. She is really an un-molested car with the exception of the previous owner re-routed/disconnected the heater. So, we drive and drive, no issues but it sure took a long time for the guages to get to what I'd consider normal. The oil temp stayed on or just above 100 for a long time and the water temp did not get above 200 ever. Gas guage? Ha! After about 50 min of driving we stopped to get something to eat. Got back in and the car would turn over, crank, and go but we were in a large parking lot with lots of others so it was stop and go at idle and we would die. I could crank right back up in neutral, get us going, then she'd die again as we were not moving fast. Once we got out on the street she ran fine but with 1 sec power pauses every 45 seconds or so at 45 mph. I am worried about poor cooling. The aux fan spins by hand and I don't know if it ever came on or not. And the engine bay is hot, hot, hot! PLenty of fluid in the res. Oil just changed and stinks but not burned smell. Still no WINaldl codes tripped. Un hooked CTS sensor and car would not start and got a trip there so I'm thinking that is good. This car seems to run fine when the ambient temperature is <80 but like poop when it is hot. I THINK: the old stock guage is reading low faulty and the thermostat is not opening (all the way). As to the stalling and power pauses?
Sounds to me that you have a perfect running car in 80 degree temp. My oil temp eventually catches up to my coolant temp. It rarely gets that hot up here so I have never experienced what you are.
I do don`t think a guage error would cause your stalling or miss.
I think you may have a carbon build up in the intake preventing a good flow of fuel. It may be evaporation due to the heat before it reaches the cylinders, I would try using a decarbonizer. You may also want to try a can of Seafoam in the tank. I have found my car ran much smoother afterwards. You can also pour some Seafoam down each TB.
Seafoam? What the heck is seafoam? Temps around here are usually 90deg. f plus. Again, I think the engine is running hot, but the old stock temp guage is not reading / indicating hot. The stalling only happens whn the engine is hot and revs are low. The power pauses happened for the first time on Sunday. Crusing along at 45- it is as though the car-swallows. You know-hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, pause, hummmmmmmmm. Maybe I should call Click and Clack with that one!
Were these just hot cars? Did they perform poorly in hot weather? Would it work better with a lower degree thremostat?
I am planning on replacing the stock rad. with an alum. one.
How can I tell if the elect. aux fan is working?
Thanks.

Most car part places will sell seafoam. Its a decarbonizer, an engine cleaner additive. Its in a can. Instructions are on the back.
The fan will not go on unless you pass I think its 230 degrees.
best price for seafoam is at menards .to check your fan it is connected at the back of you passenger engine head it needs to be grounded .i would check for vac leaks and if the iac are sealing good .i just cleaned mine beacause of bad idle .http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/index.php?act=idxtry this forum.
Okay, after pondering it is not an idle problem. It is a stalling problem. Heat may be a factor. Fuel, good flow. Good pressure at 15. New 85 fuel pump, new filter. Air...not so sure about. read somewhere that it is a good idea to disconnect the solenoid that controls the fresh air/high load intake from the front-thus giving good air all the time especially in a hot humid climate like Florida. Anyone done this or know how to do it?
how are you checking your fuel pressure ?with the 85 fuel pump it should be reading higher than that [after being regulated down it should be 12-15]i do not think air is your problem.the flap on the hood opens at full throttle .yes you can disconnect it and wire it open all the time . have you checked the spray of the injecters.i would check the tps switch ,to see if it is okay .
