Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
Can anyone give me a heads up on how to first remove all the butyl sealant that was used on this window and second any tips on what to do or not to do when replacing window with the 3M coil sealant and rubber spacers that purchased from Ecklers.
Thank You in Advance
I do this often. It takes a special primer to apply to the pinchweld on the body and also depends on the thickness of the butly tape Ecklers sold you. I will get blasted for this...but CALL me and I can walk you through this process because it will take me more time in typing than talking to you. I will give you the company name of the butyl primer I use...which is sometimes hard to find becasue using butyl is no longer an acceptabe industry standard process for installing most glass. But in your case ...the back glass was not designed to be a "structural" component like on many cars today where it is designed to be structural...so using the butyl is fine. Trying to use urethane in this area is a TOTAL PAIN and usually will end up looking like crap. I have done it BUT choose not to due to the amount of time to do it in urethane...and get it looking good ....just isn't worth it.....in my opinion.
