Default Need to replace Temp Gauge - 1977 Corvette

Hi Guys,

Can you tell me what’s involved in replacing the temperature gauge on a 77 Corvette. The one in the car is always pinned way right.

Thanks,
Dave

it may not be the gauge....it may be the sending unit.....the sending unit is in the water jacket on the passenger side of the engine under the exhaust manifold see if the wire is hooked up to and it then disconnect it and ground it and see if the gauge moves.....also could be the wiring circuit behind the gauges tha is very flimsy...start with the sending unit

excellent advise, however the sending unit is located on the driver's side on a '77 with the original motor.

Thanks for the advise. Should it turn out to be the gauge, how would I swap it?

Thanks,

Dave

If the gauge is pegged to 3 O'clock the ohms wire is grounded out! Your gauge is probably fine and you have a wire issue.

Check the wire from the sending unit to the dash.

Check the terminals on the back of the center console at the connector.

Post again. . . We'll be watching.

You have to pull the entire center cluster.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. It will be a while until I get around to looking at the car. Just wanted to get my facts straight, before I tackle the project. Always learning.

Thanks!
