I've been thinking about doing this to help fight the headlights (they're incredibly bright these days  ) blaring in through the back glass.
I was wondering if there are any cautions to doing this?
I have a rear window defogger and even though I hardly ever use it, I'd hate to destroy it if I ever have to remove the tint. I assume removing the tint would destroy the defogger: YES?
I'll be sure to get a tint darkness that's legal in my area.
I to am getting tired of 'dimming' my rear view mirror b/c of being blinded. My car is a 77 with the rear window defrost. Anyone know what this might cost aswell??
My first Vette was a '76 coupe with rear window defogger, and I had the windows tinted almost immediately (~$25 for each door window and ~$40 for rear window). A good tinter and film should pose no issues, but I would inquire about what happens if/when you remove it.
I have had other vehicle rear windows with defoggers tinted and later had the tint removed, and it never damaged the defogger.
I have rear tinted on my 74 and think it looks  .......it shouldnt do anything bad to the rear defogger if you take itt off........think about all the newer cars that people put them on and take off sooner or later.....should be fine IMO
I'll be sure to get a tint darkness that's legal in my area.
Jerry, As long as you have dual outside rearview mirror's, darkness of the tint is an non-issue. As in; cargo vans, limo's, hearse's, conversion vans any vehicle towing a trailer and pick-up's with camper shells. A darker tint is what you'll need for night driving thats easy on the eyes.
The rear window on my 77 was tinted when I brought it home. I took it off...because it was not a very good job. But, the defogger still works....at least I think it does. really hasnt been tested yet...but the little green light still comes on...lol.
I would like to install a light sensitive"dimming rear view mirror" some day. Don't think it would be very hard to do. I have one in the Formula and the Moutaineer and it's the greatest. Gotta put that on the LOOOOONG list of things to do.
Silvr77, If I don't get enough relief from the tint, I might get one of those mirrors, but I haven't seen them less for than $175 and there are a lot of other things I'd like to get first.
