A few days ago I posted a thread concerning my engine “stumbling” while at idle. One poster said that it could be a loose wire somewhere. So for the last couple of days I have gone over every wire under the hood and everywhere else that I could reach. Everything seemed tight and the stumbling continues.
My question is, can a coil cause this if it is going bad? When at cruise RPM I don’t notice any missing or stumbling. What the hell?
Mine had a stumble at idle and it was caused by the drivers side idle path in the carb being blocked. Could you have the same type of issue where the idle circuit is only working on one side of the carb? If you try to change the idle mixture does one side have an effect but the other does not? If you do adjust idle mixture screws always count number of turns so you can out them back in same place.

What year is your vette? If you have the points & condenser ignition, check to make sure the condenser hold down screw is tight. I had an intermittent miss and after hours of searching found that the little screw that secures the condenser bracket in the dist. was loose. Good luck. Hope it's something that simple.
Not sure what year or set up you have, but on my 1980 L48 when I bought it had a rough idle- just turned out to be vacuum hose leak. Started with one hose at a time and worked thru all the hoses and found the leak- the engine smoothed right out.
