Problems with 79 speedometer
I need some assistance with the speedometer on my 79. It wasn't working when I bought the car. I put a new cable on and that didn't help. I took the speedometer out of the car, hooked the old cable to the speedometer and to a drill in reverse. Everything worked fine, nice and smooth. I played with the cable on the car, on jack stands, wheels turning, I could feel the cable turrning, but not consistantly. If I get 4th gear about 4,000 rpms, that speedometer with start to work, but very jumpy. Could this be the piece that comes out of the transmission. If so, what is the name of that piece? Thanks

It sounds like you have a 4 speed, if so, you don't have cruise control. Disconnect cable from trans and spin cable with drill if speedo works look at gear in trans. Remove bolt on trans and gear assembly can be removed to inspect. You may need a new gear which is a few bucks from any of the vendors.
