82 Starter Problem
I thought this thread needed to be started again as the last thread died without resolve. I have just run for a while again with the same result. It was fine after 10 minutes and even 20. Once I had driven it 30 though, I had to let it sit 10 and then it started well again. Just seems like an odd problem. Dont really want to replace the starter. Any other ideas?
I look forward to your help
I read of some people having good results with the mini high torque starters at $150 cost, but I didn't like them or the cost and they also look like they belong on foreign car. I bought a remote starter kit from Painless and that took care of this problem once and for all.
This kit has a Ford solenoid and some wires; I had to get a 7" 4 gauge battery cable and spent about 2 hours hooking it up. I mounted it on the lower firewall out of sight. Only my local Vette club knows I have a Ford part on my Vette and I get some smack for it.............. but it beats sitting in a parking lot waiting for the solenoid rod to release or beating on the side of the starter/solenoid with a hammer............ The kit and the cable total cost was about $30.
My 82 is a daily driver here in the Phoenix desert and heat has always been a problem, but I'll post that info when you say your 82 is over heating
Do a search here on remote starter, remote solenoid and you should find some info - if that is the way you want to go.
Good luck!
