Have you tried the space age boots that you can buy to protect the wire from heat? Cost about $8 a piece.. Taylor, Thermo Tech, a couple of other companies make them. Unless your actually making contact with the header, they do work.
I just put a bunch of wire seperators to pull the wires together and away from the headers. Also used Taylor angle head wires. for my old 73 I had to wrap the headers near the wires because they were so close.
Plus the chrome wire seperators look very cool......I had to get the angled boot covers for my car after I installed the headers cause the straight ones were just too close to the headers
I had two boots that burned off weekly so I went to Jacob ceramic boots on these 2 plugs plus used a shorter plug. Accel makes these. I normally use #276 but for these 2 plugs used #276S. Adds about 3/8th inch extra clearance and Jacob boots do not burn ever.
Cost about $40 CDN each for lifetime wires from Jacobs
I would have this problem too but I make sure that I check them all the time I have often thought about those reflective wire shields that slip over the wire. I don't know if they would be any good or if they are just for show. :chevy :chevy :chevy
Forget stock wire routing! Do like Eric did and route the wires so they don't contact the tubes. There are lots of different looms available. You don't don't have stock exhausts so don't expect to use stock wires. It's not that difficult to cut your own wires to fit and you'll benefit by having shorter wires when you're through.
I have this problem and unfortunately I can't use the shorter spark plugs...so i dinged the header for more clearance and used those space age ceramic wraps on the boot...so far so good, but I check it often.
