Greetings, I will be running my 73 SB at Road America this coming weekend and need to improve cooling. I took the license plate frame out and noticed the three large cut outs in the lower panel just behind the bumper. Has anybody blocked those off to try and improve air flow driectly to the radiator? Or, are they there to help air flow scooped up by the mini spoiler, so blocking them would actually reduce air flow? Thanks for your thoughts.
Look at a late model Camero, firebird, vette Look how few square inches of frontal opening they have compared to the SQ inches of radiator.
It's all about flow. It would not matter if you put a 4X4 foot funnel on the front if behind the radiator can't extract the air. It creates an air wall.
The whole idea of front air dams and less frontal openings for air flow is to create a low pressure under the car to create radiator flow.................
Do the air dam first.
Many higher than you HP cars might only have 40 or less total sq inches of front air openings. Like NASCAR race cars for instance. but they have very little under car air creating flow through the rad.
