Ok, so I have a low profile air cleaner on my crate motor due to the RPM Airgap I have on top of the block. Yes, it does fit. I have so many differing comments on the air cleaner due to it not being gigantic. Some tell me I lose performance and others say it doesn't matter. I am limited in what I can actually place on the motor without installing a hood scoop. So...which is it. Lost power or doesn't matter?
I am planning on a a hood scoop. Just wondering if it makes any discernible difference. I see cars all the time with both types, but finally decided to find out.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
You will lose a few HP if it is too small. I had a little 10inch air cleaner, only 2 inches high on my 355ci and it was good to about 400HP. It did have the Extreme top though so if yours has a solid top you might lose a few ponies at around 350HP
This is what I have on 600+HP 427ci small block now I will take it to the dyno soon and see if it is costing me any HP I like to see the carbs I sunk so much money into
Good...that is some good info. Keep us posted on the dyno results. Mine is a 75 Vette. I have been looking into a drop base, but the Speed Demon carb limits what I put on it. FYI, the RPM is a good intake, but with a Demon the tranny vacuum port on the intake hits the bottom of the carb without a spacer.
well my two cents i got a 81 stock hood demon 750 edelbrock 14x3 dropbase air rpm air gap and it works fine but i wasent able to use stud and wingnut on to hold down air used a stainles steel bolt seems to work fine and i got 1/2 inch clearence between hood and air i used playdoh to measure this out good luck
i have seen a dyno test . it was a 450 hp motor. 350 with performer ,750 holley , yada yada. they did it with a 2 inch and a 3 inch drop base. 2inch was not enough flow after 4000. performance dropped off considerably after that.

Thanks for the info.
There is not enough room for a spacer- combine some vac. hoses to eliminate the spacer.
The dyno where I live charges $100 per hour with one hour minimum making this a $100 question if we go the dyno route.
But, it is really the only way to get a quantitative answer to your question. Look at it as an investment where you can also get your A/F ratio and an indication of what your engine is really doing.
Often (at least around here) Corvette Forum members' shops will host a dyno day with three pulls for ~$30-$50. Maybe you can generate some interest for such an activity in your area.
