Default Wheels?

I need to know if I can fit 9in wide wheels in the back of my 78 with out the 2in offset trailing arms? If so what is the widest tire I can fit on it? I am looking at 17x9 rear wheels and 16x7 up front. Thanks for your help.

There are guys running 18x9.5s with 5" backspace and 275/40 tires with NO issues. The 18 does offer some clearence advantages over the 17. I think BUT I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE that a 17x9 with a 4.75 backspace and a 275/40 tire would work. You may have to move the parking brake cable to the top of the trailing arm though. Maybe someone with some experience will jump here with the correct answer.

why do you want different size rims front and rear. i know alot of people do it but i prefer same size all round. i have 8,s on mine all round and they fit a 295 rear no problem.
