I was changing the rear bearings in my 81.....Pulled the old ones, went anf bought new ones. The outer was fine, the inner was way way too small, I took the old one in and they cross referenced the number for the proper bearing, it came up a pinion bearing, but is identical. The half shafts are huge. How can I tell if a previous owner put big block spindles and half shafts on? It looks like that too me. (I hope so) . :O)
The wheel bearings and spindles were all the same on SB and BB. There was no difference in size with BB/SB half shafts (common myth), the BB shafts were shot peened, SB were not. Differential yokes on SB had stamped straps to hold the u-joints BB had caps. U joints were the same on BB and SB.
Later C3s (77 and up?) had larger diameter half shafts as compared to pre-77.

A few years ago I needed a battery for my Ford- 1924 Model T. Went in and asked for a Group 24, 6 volt battery. Kid's 1st question- "What's it for?" Again, I need a Group 24, 6 volt battery. And again, "What's it for?" So I told him. 1924 Ford Model T. If you've ever seen a deer in the headlights you know exactly what he looked like.

Hello, The 80 -82's used a 1/2 shafts of there own to go with the new aluminum dana 44 rear end. So there were no big Block cars. However there are Two diffrent 1/2 shafts for these cars, the 80-81 with Automatics used spicer 1330 u-joints and 80-81 Manual and all 82's used 1/2 shafts for larger 1350 u-joints. Both of them used the same 3" diameter simalar to the the 75-79 Half Shaft size.
